Information for Students Nurses
If you think you would like to train in St Patricks University Hospital we would be happy to talk with you and inform you of our training. We are affiliated with Trinity College Dublin (www.tcd.ie ) but we also welcome students from other universities (and countries) who may wish to do elective placements here. We also take Pre- Nursing students including F.E.T.A.C on placement so they can decide for themselves if nursing is really for them.
Nursing students will benefit from the many varied programmes available in St Patrick’s. Placements include experience in our various programmes such as working in our eating disorder facility, mood disorder, young adult and alcohol/chemical dependence programmes. Each ward in the hospital is staffed by highly qualified professional nurses who are committed to guiding and teaching students and who value the input that students offer.
Students will have the opportunity to experience working in St Edmundsbury Hospital – a sister hospital, providing acute in-patient mental health services and situated approximately 5 miles from St Patrick’s). Placements are also facilitated in an acute public facility located in St James’ Hospital (a five minute walk from St Patrick’s). Community placements are facilitated within the local area and further placements are situated in south central Dublin - a bus ride from the hospital. Travel allowance is provided for any extra expenses that may occur. Free parking is provided within the Hospital grounds.
St Patrick’s encourages and facilitates nurses with furthering their education and opportunities are plentiful for nurses to progress into specialist areas with increasing prospects of promotion. A number of sports/social clubs exist within the hospital including the Tag Rugby Club, G.A.A Club, and the golf society, the inter-hospitals mixed hockey team and a badminton court in the recreation hall.
Should you decide to join us here in St. Patrick’s we look forward to meeting you.
